Kojima Returning to MGS5? Why He Can’t Walk Away

In a recent interview with 1up, Hideo Kojima did more than talk about his afterthoughts on Metal Gear Solid 4. What Kojima did was ever so slightly crack a window into his mind and motivation, two aspects of the acclaimed designer that show why the man has never been able to untether himself from the Metal Gear Solid series.

It is a running joke in the gaming industry that Kojima is worse than Brett Farve at deciding when to call it quits. After each Metal Gear Solid wraps development, the aspiring-filmmaker-turned-game designer always says that he’s done with the series. In the interview, Kojima hinted that he may be back for a Metal Gear Solid 5 by saying:

“I have three concepts for MGS5 already. What would be ideal for me with MGS5, though, is that we don’t do those. If the team picks one of those concepts, I have to get involved again, which I don’t want to do. There are already so many good ideas from the staff, so if we select one of those, that would be really good. At that point I could really rely on them and take the step back to be the producer, which is the ideal situation, I think.”

Holidays: 90% of Kids Want Games, Gaming Taking Over

Hasbro must be really pissed. Remember the days when board games used to bring the family together, everyone would have a good time, and there was peace as everyone roasted marshmellows over an open fire (or radiator). Technology has ended all of that. Look at their circa 1999 Web site. They must be bleeding money because there is no longer any room for dice-throwing-board-piece-moving experiences with these damned game consoles taking over. Really, how do you compete with this (suggested click)? Hell the only way they can make money is by suing Facebook rip-offs.

Unfortunately, the future doesn’t look any brighter. In a survey of nearly 1,000 boys and girls aged 8- to 17-years-old, 90% said they wanted a videogame for the holidays. Much to my dismay, kids wanted Guitar Hero: World Tour a little more than Rock Band 2 (17% to 15%)…Read More

New Nintendo DS? Is It Necessary?

Japanese news site Nikkei Net is reporting that a new DS is in the works and could hit Japan by the end of the year. The DS is a wonderful handheld and a long way from being deaded by the iPhone, no matter what Forbes thinks.

The big question is whether this will be another kind of pointless redesign made to slap a nice little “New” on the box, like Tide laundry detergent seems to do just about every week. Seriously, look at this endless product line! How many different ways do you have to wash clothes? …Read More

Force Unleashed Movie: Don’t Screw It Up, George!

With 1.5 million units moved in one week, The Force Unleashed is the fastest-selling Star Wars game in LucasArts history. As such, it isn’t a surprise the LA Times “Hero Complex” blog is reporting that a film adaptation could be likely. While most reviews including our own have a hard time forgiving the repetition of the game’s action, almost all are in agreement that it does have an amazing story.

While I’m excited about the prospect, George Lucas will likely screw up any movie based on this game because Lucas is poor filmmaker…Read More
